11月30日，現(xiàn)年59歲的美國國土安全部部長湯姆·里奇向白宮遞交辭呈，成為布什連任后第7位辭職的內(nèi)閣高官。之前，國務卿鮑威爾、教育部長佩奇、農(nóng)業(yè)部長維尼曼、能源部長亞伯拉罕、司法部長阿什克羅夫特和商務部長埃文斯已相繼辭職。里奇的主要政績包括在社會福利制度和死刑程序等方面的改革。他曾經(jīng)兩度競爭共和黨總統(tǒng)候選人，不過最終，鮑勃·多爾和布什分別在1996年和2000年成為了總統(tǒng)候選人。外電報道如下：Tom Ridge, the nation's first homeland security secretary, announced Tuesday that he is resigning after three years of reworking American security and presiding over color-coded terror alerts. He's the seventh Bush Cabinet officer leaving so far.

Ridge oversaw the most significant government reorganization in 50 years. He'll be remembered for his terror alerts and tutorials about how to prepare for possible attacks, including the controversial "disaster kits" that caused last year's run on duct tape and plastic sheeting.
